BMW Z4 Roadster sDrive35i
2979cc Petrol, Manual, kpl
Rs. 62,77,797

BMW Z4 Review
The BMW Z4 roadster is the only model available in India. A touch wider and lower than its predecessor, the new Z4 is built on a new platform that shares not a single piece with the outgoing model. It offers the choice of two existing inline 6-cylinder engines, including a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter 300-horsepower unit. It comes with an array of upgraded electronic systems that improve performance, handling and take the meaning of comfort to an entirely different level.

Design

The body of the Z4 is 0.4 inch wider and 0.3 inch lower, and sits on a wheelbase that has grown only 0.1 inch. It is a full 5.8 inches longer, however. A good portion of this newfound length is used to store the new retractable top without sacrificing the boot space in the car.
The new car's most familiar view is its top-down profile. The striking front fascia has larger versions of BMW's signature grille and the rear section gets more rounded looks that evoke the automaker's current 6-Series convertible.

Two versions of the new Z4 are offered, defined by their powertrains. The sDrive35i gets a twin-turbocharged version with a 3.0L inline 6-cylinder designs. The new Z4 has a brilliant 2-piece aluminum retractable hardtop that turns the car into a roadster/coupe, replacing the roadster and coupe of the previous generation.

The roof can be opened or closed in about 20 seconds by holding a button on the console, or the remote key fob, when equipped with the optional Comfort Access feature. Comfort Access also allows access to the trunk when the top is stored. The Z4's power hardtop is an impressive piece of engineering and likely the quietest to date. It moves almost silently, without any of the usual whirring.

The top's narrow pillars improve visibility greatly over the former model's soft top. There is also a bit more headroom, shoulderoom. The door openings are also an inch wider to make it easier to slide in with the top in place.

The driving position is just right and the optional sport seats pleasantly tight, with adjustable seatback side bolsters that come in handy in quick, twisty-road action. The seat's cushion should provide more lateral support in hard cornering, though. The instrument panel is a refreshing change over the previous model, with a more flowing design and a pair of big, classic gauges for the driver. Climate control in the car is an added feature.

The Z4 is first to get the iDrive control interface as part of an optional navigation package that includes an 80-gigabyte hard disk, 15 GB of which is put aside for music files. The new iDrive works well enough, its large knob now surrounded with seven buttons for quicker access to menus and functions. A great part of the credit goes to the crisp 8.8-inch video screen, which remains clear and legible even when viewed through sunglasses with the top down on a sunny day.

Powertrain

The engine of the sDrive35i is a inline 6-cylinder designs found under the hood of other BMW models and optimized for the Z4. The sDrive35i is powered by a twin-turbocharged 3.0L petrol engine that produces 300 bhp. The car is quick and sure footed and promises superior performance at high speeds.

Handling and Safety

The Z4's standard Driving Dynamics Control system combines different settings for the drivetrain, the stability system, the electromechanical power steering and the variable-damping shocks that come with the Sport package. In normal mode the Z4 feels like a classic roadster, with slightly weighty steering and cushioned responses. Things tighten up a bit in Sport mode; thus the DSC system's icon flashes at the slightest prod of the accelerator, even when simply rounding a street corner.

With the kind of power it produces, Standard on all versions is Driving Dynamics Control (DDC), a system that lets the driver pick one of three driving modes at the flip of a button. The standard Dynamic Stability Control system offers different thresholds as defined by the DDC, but also modulates the rear brakes to act as a virtual limited-slip differential.
An optional Sport package combines performance tires on 19-inch alloy wheels and the Adaptive M suspension, with ZF shock absorbers that can change damping force on compression and rebound instantly. The Z4 is also the first in its segment to be equipped with an electrical parking brake.

Overall evaluation

Superior style, sophistication and quality, the new BMW Z4 will be available in a range of six paint finishes (Alpine White, Black Sapphire, Deep Sea Blue, Orion Silver, Space Grey, and Titanium Silver) and three upholstery designs (Leather Kansas Black, Leather Kansas Canberra Beige, and Leather Kansas Coral Red).

The new BMW Z4 also comes with the optional Design Pure White package, that features Nappa leather in Ivory White and door inserts in Alcantara. In addition to the six standard exterior colours, Havanna Brown paintwork is also available in conjunction with the Design Pure White trim.
The new BMW Z4 will be available in the petrol variant - BMW Z4 sDrive35i -and will be available across India at an ex-showroom price of INR 59,00,000 (Ex-showroom price). If you have that kind of money to spare on a quality machine well it is time you invested it in the Z4.

BMW X3 Review
BMW X3 vs Audi Q5

The Audi is clearly the better looking of the two. It looks racier both inside and out. However, in terms of equipment and space picking one over the other is impossible as these are very close.

In terms of dynamics again, both the BMW and the Audi are pretty close. Both have quick steerings, sharp turn-ins and if pushed too hard into a corner, both are quite prone to understeering.

If it's comfort you seek, you'd be better of with the Audi. As we mentioned earlier, the comfort and convenience equipment is nearly the same on both, but the Q5 rides better and has more comfortable seats, particularly at the rear.

Overall then, buy the Audi if you want a energetic looking car and need to be transported in comfort. As for the BMW, it's the better of the two as a car to drive around everyday. It has better visibility, easier and more logical controls and better ergonomics.

BMW X3 vs Volvo XC60

The Volvo again is the more flamboyant looking of the two city SUVs here. Inside too with the play of light colours and metal inserts the cabin feels more cheery. It's also better equipped of the two here, mainly when it comes to safety features.

However, when you begin driving, the new X3 impresses more. It feels more agile be it around a set of quick corners or just managing your way through crowded streets. The 2-litre engine on the BMW feels more refined as well and there's also no denying that when it comes to automatic gearboxes (the conventional torque convertor kinds), no one does it better than BMW.

The X3 8-speed auto is no different. Compared to the Volvo's auto 'box, the X3's feel alive, quick and very predictable. And with it, great fun to use.

The BMW then remains the city SUV to buy, if it's a fun to drive vehicle you want, be it for everyday use or for a quick blast around the hills.

BMW 6-Series Review
The German automobile manufacturer BMW launched its 6 Series in India in 2007. The range of cars was quite obviously meant for those distinguished super-rich Indian consumers. The second-generation two-door coupe flaunts striking exteriors, which are well complemented by spacious interiors. The sports-car-look of the vehicle gives it a smooth look and feel and the engine gives it the energy to surge to top speeds. Seamless transmission, advanced safety features, high stability and handing quality are only some of the highlights of BMW 6 Series coupe.

Design

The long bonnet and the wide posture of the BMW 6 Series Coupe, give it its unique and at the same point in time a sexy look. The 6 Series has body coloured bumpers, sparkling headlamps and a sleeker front grille. The car also comes with clear lens jewel-like fog lamps that dazzle the front of the car. The rear end of the Coupe is muscular and the look is enhanced by dazzling tail lamps and an additional brake light which is integrated in the spoiler lip. The interiors of the car are roomy and very comfortable. There is enough space for four people to squeeze into the two door coupe.
The interiors of the car as good as they could get. The interiors definitely compliment the exterior of the car. The use of top quality materials provide functionality and exclusivity to the car. The 2+2 seater has a generous boot space and the passengers at the rear seat do not feel cramped up.

Upholstered in finest Dakota leather, the cabin gets some sleek wooden trim in the trendy instrument cluster and leather wrapped steering wheel with multi-functional buttons. Standard features found in the 650i variant of BMW 6 Series coupe include automatic air-conditioning, power windows and power door locks.

Powertrain

Since only the 650i variant is the only one available in India, it has to have a powerful engine and thats exactly what it has. The car is powered by a 4.8L V8 engine which of course is good and churns out a good 360 bhp. The eight-cylinder V8 engine not only makes the car quick but makes it efficient when it comes to fuel consumption. The engine makes for a great driving experience as you can push the limit and expect the car to stand firm on the ground.

Handling and Safety

The Active Steering System of the coupe makes use of an electric motor, which modifies the wheel angle according to the acceleration and deceleration of the car. The optional Dynamic Drive active suspension system takes handling precision to an altogether new level. The suspension provides the car with better stability and also offers a high level of riding comfort by minimizing body roll via the active anti-roll bars, positioned on the front and rear axles. This ensures a smooth ride for all the passengers in the car.

Passenger safety has been improved in the latest version of BMW 6 Series coupe. One of the advanced safety features of the coupe is the crash-active headrest, which reduces the risk of neck injury. Sidewalls of the run-flat tyres have been strengthened, which increases the durability of the tyres. Night vision, optional in the coupe, reduces the stress of trying to see people in low light conditions. Side impact protection and crumple zones shield the passengers from the impact of collisions.

Overall Evaluation

The only variant of the BMW 6 Series coupe available in India is the 650i petrol model. It is priced at Rs 79,70,000. The car is available in colours like Deep Sea Blue, Monaco Blue, Black Sapphire, Stratus Grey, Space Grey, Atlantic Blue, Mineral Silver, Titanium Silver and Alpine White. The sports car is of course meant for a certain crowd. Though a crowd puller for sure, the price will attract only those who have the means to buy and maintain it.
